ECo-Armour™ Tank Apron Project

Geography: Central Alberta
Industry: Oil & Gas
Materials: ECo-Armour Tank Apron Protection System
Duration: 2 weeks

Project Description

Engineered Containment was chosen to design & build a tank apron protection for a single dilbit storage tank in a multi-tank secondary containment lot with provisions for future tanks. ECI’s ECo-Armour tank apron system was selected for this project because of proven exceptional value provided by its superior moisture & erosion protection, puncture resistance, slip-resistant surface, and long-term durability. All of this was achieved at a fraction of the cost of the previously specified concrete cloth.

ECI’s ECo-Armour™ system was engineered to extend the life of tanks by reducing tank settlement and corrosion while eliminating tank foundation erosion caused by rainwater cascading off tank roofs and walls.  Elimination of erosion results in significant savings on maintenance costs for continual regrading and compaction of the aprons around tanks.

Outcome

The Owner, Engineer, and General Contractor were impressed with the outstanding value, quality, and service they received by choosing ECI to design & build their ECo-Armour™tank apron protection system.

lessons learned

Designing a containment system where the “devil is in the detail” was critically important for Eco-Armour™.  Since this project we’ve seen one copy-cat system that was already failing after 1 year of service because of poor tank ring attachment and geomembrane design.
